BECAUSE OFF-ROAD TRIATHLON IS MORE THAN JUST SWIM, BIKE, RUN. 

Our XTERRA plans take into account the unique demands of riding and running off-road; where the terrain often dictates your effort and the ability to “into the red” and come back still charging is the difference between finishing strong versus simply making it to the finish.

SPECIFICITY & PROGRESSION ARE THE HALLMARKS OF TRAINING SUCCESS.  

All our plans are built around steady progression in swim, bike, run & strength training. As your fitness builds, so does your confidence on race day. Every workout has a specific purpose & design, along with well laid out explanations based around RPE, HR, power & pace. This daily structure leads to quantifiable performance and keeps you engaged.

SWIM

Our swim workouts revolve around developing the skills & fitness required to deal with the challenges of open water swimming bands, snorkels & paddles. Focal Point: muscular endurance & turnover.

BIKE

Bike sessions are designed around the MTB, with the ability to perform structured workouts on the trainer at home, or the road or trail as desired by the athlete. Focal Point: developing a strong aerobic engine.

RUN

In Base Builder runs are individual sessions for max quality; in Race Prep key runs are done ‘off the bike’ to simulate race day stress, while minimizing run volume. Focal Point: muscular endurance & stamina.

STRENGTH

Creating total body strength is a cornerstone of our training philosophy and it’s essential for body control across all three sports; not to mention health & longevity. Focal Point: Muscular Function & Durability.

BUILD YOUR BASE, THEN PREPARE TO RACE. 

Our two-part plans are divided into Base Builder & Race Prep. First decide how much ‘off-season’ time you have available to build your base. Then follow that with our Race Prep plans to sharpen your fitness for raceday. You can run through 2-3 Race Prep Cycles within one season, under one Base Builder, to allow you to hit an early season peak, race through the summer, and peak again in the fall for the championships!

First, Train Your XTERRA Specific Base...

GOAL: Build Strength, Speed & Power!

Spend 12, 18 or 24 weeks developing your strength & aerobic energy systems following one of our XTERRA Base Builder Programs. Through a specific strength training protocol in the gym and a highly structured pace, power & heart-rate based interval training program in the pool, on the bike, and on the run you will create a strong foundation of fitness prior to your racing season.

Then, Sharpen Your XTERRA Race Specificity...

GOAL: Develop Fatigue Resistance

With your base fitness established, you’re ready to sharpen your sword with our 8-week XTERRA Race Preparation Plan. We begin with the highest intensity energy systems and work our way out towards race day by gradually lowering intensity while simultaneously extending endurance. The goal in Race Prep is to create fatigue resistance so you can go the distance on race day.
