You must first know where you’re at in order to know where you want to go. Testing to identify your current capabilities is critical in setting up an effective training program. Testing regularly to track progress and confirm your training program is essential to keep you on the right track.  

WE HAVE FOUND TWO TESTING PROTOCOLS TO BE THE MOST BENEFICIAL IN CREATING A TRAINING PROGRAM

 Aerobic Threshold

20:00 @ 80% maximum heart rate for average power (sub-maximal)

 

 Anaerobic Power

1:00, 2:00 & 4:00 efforts for best average power (maximal)

Your goal is to achieve higher average power at same aerobic HR indicating improved aerobic function, a positive training effect. Decreases in aerobic function indicate an adjustment in training, diet, and/or lifestyle are needed.

With this test we can determine your current Fatigue Rate (FR), how much power decreases as duration doubles. FR allows us to set training zones (including FTP) and determine athletes training focus between strength/speed vs. endurance.

We set your bike up on one of our Wahoo Kick’rs, we take you through the hour long testing protocol. Afterwards we break down the data for you and you leave with a full understanding of your current fitness profile including your Aerobic Threshold power (AeT), a complete list of your power-based training zones (including your Functional Threshold Power), as well as your Fatigue Rate and an understanding of where you should focus your next block of training.

The Sessions:6 Power Based Training Zones

ZONE 7: Peak Power (5 second max power)
ZONE 6: Anaerobic Power (1-4 minute max power)
ZONE 5: Vo2 Max (8-16 minute max power)
ZONE 4: Anaerobic Threshold (32-64 minute max power)
ZONE 3: Aerobic Threshold (2 hour power)
ZONE 2: Endurance (4+ hour power)
ZONE 1: Recovery
